A little over 30 people listened intently to bird sounds from Diana Wales’s back deck as Matt Hunter wrote down the species we were hearing. After about 5-10 minutes, Matt began pointing out the more noticeable birds that all could hear. After about 30 minutes we had tallied about 30 species and we moved to Diana’s driveway, where house and outbuildings were not blocking our hearing. Here we added another 5 species or so and got to watch 5 Western Tanagers in the top of a Douglas-fir! The intensity of the concentration and interest in this group of folks was awesome! Following is a link to Matt’s eBird list for this event, which includes an additional 8 species heard during the hour after the event.
