Event Report: Lunchtime Birding in Roseburg, Stewart Park Nature Area: November 16, 2023
We had 12 attendees on our lunchtime birding fieldtrip to the “Duck Pond” at Stewart Park Nature Area. The group did a short exploration of this highly accessible birding spot right in the middle of Roseburg. We identified 23 bird species on our walk. Highlights included: a GREATER YELLOWLEGS on the floating platform in the middle of the pond and several species of ducks including, RING-NECKED DUCKS and RUDDY DUCKS. We also had a great up close look at COOT’S feet! We spotted a variety of little brown birds that gave several attendees some brief glimpses as they flitted through the willows. These smaller birds included a TOWNSEND’S WARBLER and a handful of PINE SISKINS. At the end of the stroll we spied a single GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE mixed in with the flock of CANADA GEESE on the edge of the golf course. This little “pop-up” birding event was a big success. We hope to continue providing them to you all and are always interested in finding folks with the time and willingness to be trip leaders and participant greeters for us! Please contact Tracy if you have interest helping to keep these events happening! (firstname.lastname@example.org.) Happy Birding Friends!
