Umpqua Valley Audubon Society

The votes are in, and we are pleased to introduce our new name:

Umpqua Bird Alliance!

Our new name communicates our mission in a welcoming and inviting way. Although Umpqua Bird Alliance highlights our focus on birds, our mission still reflects our commitment to wildlife, nature, and the environments that sustain them.  We are proud to live within the “Hundred Valleys of the Umpqua” in Douglas County, a landscape that sustains an incredible diversity of wildlife. Birds offer a familiar and accessible way for people to connect with this landscape.  The word Alliance reflects those essential partnerships that strengthen our work and foster a sense of unity.

The name change also aligns us with a nationwide network of organizations adopting the words Bird and Alliance in their names. We join approximately 50 chapters nationwide and five chapters within Oregon that have changed or plan to change their name.

Umpqua Bird Alliance remains an active chapter of the National Audubon Society. We will continue to collaborate with other chapters across the country and within Oregon, as well as with local, state, and national partners to advance our conservation and engagement goals.

What has Not changed?

We remain proud of all that our organization accomplished under the name of Umpqua Valley Audubon Society. With our new name, we will continue to be a community who work passionately to protect birds, wildlife, and their habitats, to connect people with nature, and to promote healthy environments. Our offerings, including bird outings, presentations, educational programs, participating in National Audubon’s annual Christmas Bird Count, and outreach, will remain unchanged.

Membership

We are grateful that you are a member, and all your member benefits will continue uninterrupted, under our new name. Any initial membership should still go through National Audubon Society at: https://act.audubon.org/a/chapter-membership. Our chapter code is: T56

All the changes involved with rolling out the new name will take time. Thank you for your patience.

Recognizing the strength that comes from diversity in both natural systems and human communities, we welcome all people, regardless of race, gender identity, sexual preference, age, levels of physical, cognitive, and social ability, or citizenship status. We continually seek to advance and prioritize diversity, equity, and inclusion through our programs and partnerships.
