The UVAS Annual Roseburg-Sutherlin Christmas Bird Count (CBC)
And The Countdown Potluck Dinner!
Saturday December 20th, 2025
Would you like to start a new tradition for the holiday season? Would you like to be of service participating in a national bird census while having fun and learning more about birds.
The Christmas Bird Count (CBC) is a national annual event. It’s the longest running citizen science survey in the world! It’s been running for over 100 years. The CBC is held from December 14th to January 5th each year. For one day, during these three weeks, individuals in communities all over the country spend a pre-designated day identifying, counting birds and tallying their results.
We will be hosting our CBC on December 20th this year.
We would like to invite all interested individuals to join us in participating in this wonderful tradition. Opportunities to help with the census include a variety of activity levels from: participating in a feeder count at home, observing birds from a car, walking part of the day, walking all day and even pre-dawn and/or night time owling!
Important Training Date:
December 17th, 2025, 5:30 pm: Optional training for CBC
(at 631 W.Ballf St. Roseburg, “The Roost”)
To help conduct the census, we will hold this one training session. If you are new to doing a CBC, you will not be sent out on your own. We will connect you with an experienced leader. If you can’t make this event, you will learn as you go from your team.
Countdown Potluck Dinner for all Participants
December 20th Starting at 5 pm
at the Roseburg Public Library in the Ford Room
If counting birds isn’t your thing, can you volunteer to help with the Countdown dinner?
Could you bring in a dish of food to share? Or help take every down and put away?
5:00 pm: Bring in dish to share. Hot beverages available
5:30 pm: Dinner (bring personal fork/spoon, bowl, plate and cup)
6:30 pm: Group countdown of species will begin.
7:00pm: Help clean up
